Kicker motors on sleds.
« on: November 24, 2018, 10:11:06 AM »
I have a 19' Custom weld that I need to put a kicker motor on it. I see custom weld sells the bracket.
What my question is what length shaft does it need to have to operate correctly. My Brother says his Woolridge has an Extra Long.
Any suggestions or advise on options for this would be awesome. (H.P, Type, make, ect.)

Seems like extra long is most common. But you would need to take some measurements. The cavitation plate should be close to even with the bottom of your boat. The only kicker I would consider is a Yamaha T9.9 they are the premier kicker motor. Especially if trolling. And I love mine with the electric start, tilt, trim!

Thanks for the info T9.9 long shaft. I like the power trim and tilt and E-start. Will shop around when I get home and see who has them for a good price. Any leads on that?
Thanks.

I second HntnFsh completely.  Love the Yamaha T9.9.  No idea why they don't make the 8 anymore but that ship has sailed so the 9.9 it is.  Had mine for 6 years and never a hiccup.  Easy to do the maintenance yourself and save a bunch as well.

Leads on price when buying new is going to be tough.  Pretty standard on what they are worth.  May find a winter time sale, last year model or something along those lines.  I'm a huge fan of Northwest Marine and Sport in Pasco, WA.  I save a bunch by making the drive to buy a new boat from them.  Straight forward sale, no screwing around when I showed up, water test and out the door.  I don't know that the savings would be there on a single 9.9 kicker but might be worth the phone call to see if they want to move a motor.

Few years ago I fished with a guide who had a really nice add on for his yammy 9.9 a foot switch on the floor for up and down tilt. I thought that was a real slick part. Tape measure from transom to bottom will tell the taLe on shaft length. I have a T8 Longshaft hung on mine, but it's a custom flatbottom.
