Meanwhile I glassed a range where Id normally come up with 30 plus bucks on a slow day and over 300 deer.  I found 6. 6 deer that is, no bucks.  Some ravens were working a kill.  I figured our furry friends were about somewhere.   24 hours later I got an email from my Dad saying I missed them.  Three wolves were spotted running by where the kill had been.  He said a much larger one running with two that looked younger.   I hate change.   Maybe I should do a wolf calendar next year.  I'm sure Id sell more. LOL

It looks pretty bleak for the deer in the Methow, we have watched it happen year after year while Fitkin ran to the papers with his BS deer reports.

Eleven wolves were seen in Elbow Coulee about a week ago, and five have been reported over on lower Balky, another report of seven down by Black Canyon.

Wolves are finishing up the deer etc..

He is catering to a crowd that loves them.  Basically the point to my post.  The Methow is full of folks that would rather see a wolf than a deer, and certainly most of them could careless about a set of antlers.   The Disney effect is all fun and games until one of them shreds Fiddo in the front lawn, or worse yet, little Suzi.

Having lived there most of my adult life,  it is sad to see what the Valley has become.  There are a "few" good people left there but the transplants and Liberal retirees have really screwed it up WITH the help of the Feds and their eco-buddy's(Sierra Club, MVCC).  :tree1:

They only eat the sick injured, weak, calves while their footage is of a pack bringing down a 6 point bull. He must have been sick. Leftist hit piece.

Not even a newer lib biologist could call that anything but an utterly left leaning utopian wolf lovers wet dream of an infomercial.
They don't even realize how nonsensical their argument of wolves only preying on sick, young and old elk while footage of the opposite is playing. And to basically say "all you need to do to protect your sheep and cattle is employ range riders and buy sheep dogs" by only interviewing 1 rancher who hasn't had any problems is again total B.S.

But all the wolf lovers are infusing the local communities with millions of dollars a year so they can get a glimpse of a wolf. I am sure it will happen in the method too, right...

They might make a few bucks but are losing many more millions than that with lack of hunting revenues ...

Curious as a wildlife biologist were you upset with poor journalism and lack of research done in this broadcast?

I know in my line of work when I see one sided poor low IQ journalistic  criticism replete with half truths and out right lies regarding my line of work I get pissed off.

Saw a post by Randy Newberg that 60 minutes is airing a piece on Yellowstone wolf re-introduction and they interviewed him to provide the hunter's perspective.  It's supposed to air Dec 23.  Will be curious to see it...and I'm very thankful they selected Randy Newberg to represent the hunters perspective.

Randy made a FB post on the subject:

I am a bit apprehensive about the 60 Minutes episode that will air on CBS this Sunday evening. Last winter I was called by Rome Hartman, producer of 60 Minutes, and asked if I could provide some background and history about the Yellowstone wolf reintroduction through the eyes of a hunter. (Still not sure where he got my name.) They were coming to Yellowstone to do a piece about wolves 20+ years after the reintroduction.

We talked for quite a while. When they came to Bozeman a few weeks later to do some research on the project, he asked me to meet him and his assistant producer, Sara, for breakfast. I gave him more details about the history of the reintroduction through the eyes of someone who spends a lot of time on this landscape and has been here the entire time that the reintroduced wolves have been here.

Rome called me a few weeks later and asked if I would be willing to be interviewed for the piece they were producing. I told him I would think about it. He wanted the perspective of a hunter for this piece.

I talked to folks I trust who have a background in news media. Some cautioned against it, explaining that when interviewed you have no control over the final product or the context in which your comments would be used. Some in the hunting world encouraged me to do it.

I thought about it long and hard. Eventually I decided to do it, knowing full well it carries a lot of risk. I drove to Mammoth and spent a couple hours in an interview with Bill Whitaker. Bill was a very good interviewer, obviously very experienced in his craft.

Rome emailed me this week to let me know the episode will air this Sunday, December 23rd. I have not seen a draft of the segment, as they do not allow that. I have no idea what context will be given or what/how comments will be used. Rome assures me that I have nothing to worry about. I hope he is right, as it is a big risk for someone in my position to put words on camera without any control over how the editors cut and paste the pieces together.

So, if this effort to speak on behalf of hunters results in my platforms being demolished by Monday morning, it has been a good run.

Obviously not a 60 minute guy,  how long is the actual piece?   Like 15 minutes?

It was just another lie from the USFWS etc., actually viewing went down after the illegal wolf introduction, but like the rest of the lies told by the corrupt USFWS etc., the same BS is repeated year after year.

"The 1994 EIS predicted that presence of wolves would result in a 5-10 percent increase in annual visitation to Yellowstone National Park. On this basis, the EIS forecast wolves in the region would generate $20 million in revenue to the states of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. WG&F reports that annual park visitation remained essentially unchanged after wolf introduction, and has decreased 2.6 percent since the wolf population reached recovery goals in 2000.

“ Since park visitation did not increase as originally forecast, the Service cannot legitimately conclude presence of wolves has had any appreciable effect on net tourism revenues,” WG&F stated."

Not one word from the parks guy on Bison

Bison were the intended target and purpose of bringing in larger wolves from Canada instead of simply using wolves from back east, the eastern timber wolf which was a much closer genetic match to our timber wolf which was never extinct in the first place.

https://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/management/bison-management.htm
Quote
A nursery group of bison cows and calves makes its way through Lamar Valley. Due to high rates of survival and reproduction, the bison population increases by 10 to 17% every year: ten times faster than the human population grows worldwide.

Wolves take a precious few Bison, the Elk being far easier to deal with.  So the Parks has these big drives culling Bison out of the park boundary'rs lured by hay and feed they round them up and give them to the natives.

Quote
Bison need to be managed.
Until there is more tolerance for bison outside Yellowstone, the population can only be controlled by hunting outside the park and capture near the park boundary. Captured bison are transferred to Native American tribes for slaughter and distribution of meat and hides to their members. We understand that many people are uncomfortable with the practice of capture and slaughter. We are too, but there are no other options at this time. Along with our IBMP partners, we’re pursuing alternatives like quarantine and expanded tolerance outside the park that would reduce the need for capture and shipment to slaughter.

So now the elk are killed by wolves, the Bison by people and voila the streams have brush on the banks again!  Magic!   Not really, it's the Bison that erode stream banks not Elk but it's an easy lie to tell the public that wolves have saved the beaver....
