Info on Idaho elk hunting
« on: November 11, 2018, 02:35:49 PM »
I have elk hunted for many years and would like to see some new country.  I know Idaho has allot of elk and it’s my understanding they issue a good number of tags.  I will start my research online but if someone has allot of expierence over there and might share some info I would greatly appreciate it.

Sounds like eastern Oregon is the place to be. What weapon are you hunting?

Typically muzzle loader in Wa and rifle out of state... I have killed 22 elk so I  really am just looking fir a new adventure.  I hunted Colorado for 10 years and my friends moved away.  Want to hunt Idaho and Montana next !

Idaho has a quota so a got to commit early. The good tags sell out fast

Most Idaho OTC rifle tags have a pretty tight quota on them, so be ready the day they go on sale to apply for one. One exception would be the early rifle season out by the lava beds. Pretty sure that one doesn't have a quota but it's not the typical elk hunt. Probably one of the best bets to harvest a bull in velvet though.

On my 21st elk to was looking for something different and headed east ti Idaho.  That was four years ago and this year i tagged my fourth Idaho bull.  Its worth the drive.  Lots of elk and its easy to get away from crowds.  We work very hard at it and put in lots of very tough miles but we have tagged 13 bulls in our little group.  Go for it.

Stay away from the bitterroot or anything near by.. hunted there last year. No deer. No elk. There are a sh load of wolfs. Seen nothing but. If you want to hunt wolfs go there. I believe you can get 5 and I think the tags are$35
