Well, got my new brass skinner peep and my rpp large loop on my new .357. Got it dialed in off the bench, then started ringing an 8" steel target offhand at 50yards, then kneeling with my elbow on my knee started ringing the crap out of steel at 80. Going to get a brass front here soon, but for now this gun is ready to hunt. Getting up at 5 a.m. to do a combo shed hunt / cougar hunt. Leaving the scoped .243 at home and bringing the marlin with me. Will try to call a lion in close and take it with the marlin. If no luck with a cat hoping to at least get a yote. Man, this gun is fun to shoot.  Has the makings of an excellent timber gun.

Sounds like a fun one.  I've been thinking of a Marlin Trapper 16" in 45-70 for a brush gun.  Tough to find them in stock anywhere though.  Love those peep sights too.

If Wild West Guns is still around, see if they have a trigger for the 1894.  I have one in my 1895 GS, and it is smooth.

My 1894 Cowboy gun, 22" octagon barrel, came with a 3 piece firing pin so I replaced it with a solid one and a Wolf spring. Took the bolt out and put it on a stone and got rid of the machine marks then polished it with a ceramic stone and buffed it. That took a lot of the stiffness out of it and really slicked it up for Cowboy Action. Could almost keep up with the short stroked '73s. Shortened the tube spring so it would hold 10 rounds then put a stainless tube spring in. Found out the stock one got a little rusty inside and wasn't feeding all the time. Not a good thing during a match. Wouldn't be a good thing when ya got a cat or yote coming in either. Couldn't tell ya how many rounds has gone through it. Sweet shooting long gun for sure. Have fun with it!

  I love my Marlin 1894C 357mag. I have the XS Ghost Ring Sights and scout scope rail. I have a Leupold M8 2.5 IER scope with Warne quick detach rings. I installed Wild West happy trigger, Bear Proof ejector, one piece stainless firing pin and Wolff reduced power hammer spring. Action is smooth like butter with a 2 pound trigger pull. I have the Ghost Ring sights dialed in at 50yds and scout scope at 100yds. Was shooting Federal American Eagle 158gr. SP ammo and chronographed them at average 1835fps. Now I load the federal cases with 16.0grs of H110 powder with a Federal GM200M primer and a Speer 158Gr. SP,TMJ or Deep Curl HP bullets. Only thing I have killed with it yet is muskrats and ground squirrels. Last year packed it around for damage control mule deer doe hunt but didn't have the opportunity to use it. I would be afraid to us it on deer within 100yds.
  Have plenty of ammo for this carbine, because once shooting it is hard to quit shooting! Fun with no recoil even with full power 357mag loads and 38 specials are a cream puff.

Guess ill look into that wild west trigger when i order a new front sight.  Factory sight works with my skinner peep, but i want a nice brass front.  Leaving it as is for now though, until i get burned out on predator calling for the winter.  Only done a few attempts at calling cats so far this year with no luck, but ill be back at it the next few days.  Would like to get first blood for this new gun.

When you get a chance after the new year, we'll have to get together on that Kimber, and I can bring my 1894 GS with the WWG trigger to try out.
