Mayer’s Custom Meats
« on: December 06, 2018, 07:47:36 PM »
Anyone try this butcher to process their deer or elk? Looking to get some jerky, pepperoni sticks, summer sausage, beer dogs and maybe breakfast sausage. I usually go to butcher boys but they’re not taking wild game until Jan 2.

Had them do jalapeño summer sausage and pepperoni last year out of some deer. Tastes great and I have no complaints. Have a lot of other buddies enjoy their meats also.

I love butcher boys meats too. I will say my hunting party took an elk there this year and had a BB in the burger when we got it back. I know my dad had that happen in the past also.

You can also look at Top Choice Meats in vancouver off of 4th plain. He says he guarantees your own meat back.

Back when we used to have people do some of our meet we used them, gardners, and butcher boys. We always had pretty good products with them all but I dont think you get your own meet back all of the time at mayers, as we had them just go back when you arrive and start pulling packs of stuff and throwing them in a bag, order was never all together when we arrived. Butcher boys and gardners always had your order all in a box with your name on it. We have been doing it all ourselves for years now so that we know where our meat has been and exactly what we are getting. :twocents:

I used them for the first time this year. Seemed decent. I dont care for how they do all of their steaks but I am used to cutting it myself or how Premium Smoked Meats in Woodland did them. Unfortunately Premium Smoked Meats is no longer in business. I have used Top Choice before as well. i would probably default to going to them all the time now, its just that I seem to always get my animals on the days they are not open and its too warm for me to hold onto the meat too long.

Yea if it were me I would keep it frozen and wait until the first of the year when the other butcher can take it in.

I’ve never taken in game meat but they butcher our pigs every year and do great work. Staff has always been friendly and their meat selection is awesome. The only thing I don’t care for is how they package steak. Butcher boys and Gardner’s do good work also.

 :yeah: x2

Actually do my own processing now. If I didn’t Top Choice would be my first choice  :twocents:

Had bird shot in my elk pepperoni made from Mayers. Either they didn't clean their grinders after processing birds, or I got something other than my elk. This was years ago, but I haven't been back. Can't afford the time off work to go to the dentist. I DIY now.

I've had the same thing happen in some deer summer sausage made at Dick's NW sausage & Deli have not been back since, I Just bought all my own processing equipment and make my own now for the last 7 years or so.
Its amazing how much more meat you get back when you do it yourself and its also pretty fun to do.
I order all my sausage seasonings and cases ect. through PS Seasoning.com they have an amazing selection of things to try.

Pretty sure Dick does everything bulk. All the meat is mixed then divvied up.
