Sounds about the same as the SW employee that told my friend he needed a 416 rigby at minimum for black bear hunting.

Work behind the counter and listen to the stories.
There's a whole lot more silly stories to be heard from the backside of a gun counter for sure..

I was in the Federal Way SW a few years back listening to the counter guy. Here was a young Army guy asking about taking a personal handgun to the big sandbox. I'm thinking 9mm or 45acp because of the access to ammo, but no the counter guy says the only good one to take is a 357sig. Good round but are you going to find ammo in the sandbox?

You want BS. Take a gun in to Cabelas for them to buy! I took a pristine S&W model 29 44 mag 5 screw in the Lacey store. First time they told me $1600. The guy who walked me out with the gun who was another appraiser told me to never take less than $2000. I went back a couple of months later and tried again. This time they argued and said it wasnt a 5 screw until a third guy came out and showed the other two how to identify a 5 screw. They offered me $1200. Couldn't help myself and went back a few months later. Got the same guy as the first visit that offered me $1600. He said gun is worthless as it had been reblued and to just go shoot the hell out of it. He said he would go $600 bucks. I was on my to Idaho and thought I would take the gun into the Boise Cabelas. The whole gun crew went nuts over this gun. One guy wanted me ro leave the store and he would give me $3000. They ended up giving me $2700 cash!

I went and picked up a scope.  Decided to have them mount it since they do it for free.

I now am the owner of all the scope mounting do-dads and mount all my scopes in my kitchen or dining room  :chuckle:

A busy gun counter, especially in a chain store, is often more entertaining than a comedy club.

Can't beat the boat launch at Redondo on a summer weekend though

I heard the counter guys say barrel fluting was for looks only to be more 'tactile', no practical reasoning.

You guys need to have fun with them and ask really bizarre questions to see how bad the guys really are...like car salesmen.

Gee, I guess there shouldn't have been anything left of the antelope I shot this year with my 338 Win. Mag. according to the Cabela's "gun expert."  Funny it just made a hole going in and a slightly bigger hole going out, probably about the same as my 30/06 would have done.   :dunno:

Should have been even less of the Pronghorn I shot with a 375 H&H yet somehow there was plenty!  The bullet you use has a lot more to do with the condition of the meat than the cartridge that sends it...

I wonder if anyone will ever tell the guy that a 375 caliber rifle is the minimum for elephant and buff in most African countries!

I use to think rifles in 338 Lapua shot bullets but I learned later they shoot 5 dollar bills!

That's funny!

Also, it seems all these gun counter guys are all former military snipers and or at the least, "shoot competition".  Those guys are my favorites. LOL

That always gets a raised eyebrow when some 400lb dude hints at being a former special forces delta ranger seal sniper.

Boat launch is another good hangout.
One of my favorite summer lunch spots is Lakeview Drive In in Chelan.  They have an outdoor eating bar that overlooks the city park boat launch, which requires making either a 3-point turn with a trailer, or backing down an approach that curves right, then left down the ramp.  Hours of quality entertainment  :chuckle:
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
