Anyone going out?
« on: January 01, 2019, 02:19:52 PM »
Hey guys,
I was just curious if anyone goes out shed hunting on the westside this time of year? I was just thinking with most of the vegetation being gone, it might be a good time to go look for last years sheds.. I’m going to head out tomorrow and see if I can find any Rosie sheds from last year in a few spots I always see sign.. I went there last spring and there were tracks, trails and tons of rubs, but I never found any sheds.. I was also thinking it might be easier to find trails that might be obscured by spring/summer vegetation. Any thoughts?? I’m always open to any westside shed hunting tips as well! I’m a novice at all this! I found a few elk sheds on the Eastside last year and I’m completely hooked!!

Last year was the first year I targeted sheds specifically. My best and first day was March 14th. I found three fresh blacktail sheds. I will be waiting for the beginning of March to start looking. Anything there now, will be there in a couple months, plus the freshies. In my mind, I don’t want to cover ground now, and pass it up later because I kinda already looked there earlier.
My total findings last year was three fresh BT , two old BT, and a spike elk dead head. My aunt found a dandy 3pt BT set in an area I skimmed through during the hunting season this year  :bash:
My technique this year will be a little more gridding as opposed to going long and far all over.
Any excuse is a good excuse to get in the woods anyway, so why not? All the vegetation will still be down thru March at least. That does really help! Good luck!

Nice finds man! Sweet pups too!
So yeah I hear ya, I’m just itchin to get out in the woods. Figured looking for sheds should be a nice way to pass the time. I like your plan on gridding areas more than going far and long (especially on the super thick westside) I might deploy that tactic tomorrow. This area I’m going has so much sign all over, but I’ve yet to find a shed in there. I think I’m gonna hit the thick steep stuff I avoided last time. Fingers crossed.

Thanks! I wish they would find sheds for me  :chuckle:

Only way to find em’ is to be out there. Tomorrow should be a nice day. Good luck!

I picked up winter steelhead fishing this year. Just so happens to be on the same river I deer hunt around. My eyes will definitely be scanning the ground as I work up and down the river!
