Where to fish around Astoria
« on: March 25, 2009, 04:14:53 PM »
Hey guys I am going to be stationed at Camp Rilea, Oregon from the 15th of April until the middle of July. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of where to fish.  I will confined to the bank/beach.  I will be 1 hour south of Long Beach, so clams as well?  I have rods and tackle to fish for pretty much anything so all suggestions will be welcomed.  I am willing to try anything because this ruined all of my spring fishing plans, including the catfish trip to the snake/palouse.  Thanks in advance.

You should be able to get into some greatsurf perch action! Also I see people fishing along the bank just after the big bridge on the WA side. Guess they are sturgeon fishing?? Go to the bait shop in Chinook, that guy has lots of bait/tackle and will give you advise.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

They do some banking for sturgeon west of the astoria bridge.  They actually do pretty good at times.  You might want to hit up ifish.net and hope for some open seats.  There will be some killer sturgeon fishing the end of may on through your stay.  Heck you might even hitch a ride from one of us on here.

Lots of fishing to be had.As mentioned there's surf pearch and sturgeon. You could also get into some springers in youngs bay tide water. There's 1 mil coho predicted to return to the columbia this year,as long as either the ocean or bouy 10 is open then the north jetty would be open to salmon. If you are stuck on the bank this may be a good fishery this year.Just get yourself a big ol foam bobber,a bobber stop,4 oz banana wieght, and a chovy.Ocean coho should be great,oh and then there's TUNA,and hallibut if you can find a ride out.

Head a little south to the Seletz River for some killer steelhead. Or Tillamook bay for salmon. There is to many opportunities to list down there. I suggest you hookup with a local and see them all, lol.
