Elk 101
« on: February 12, 2019, 07:38:49 PM »
Has anyone taken the elk 101 course and if so was it worth the money?  I'm still fairly new to elk hunting and looking for any kind of tips or advantages.

I did it last year and got a buddy in for half price or whatever deal he was running at the time so it made it a bit cheaper for both of us.  I enjoyed it and took a bunch of notes to refer back to (I just don't commit things to memory that well).  I had a whopping two years of elk hunting under my belt and not having any luck getting my local buddies to let me tag along realized I was basically on my own to figure it out.

I found the majority of information very helpful.  Some just did not apply for how I plan to hunt or where I want to hunt but I wouldn't expect it all to apply to me.

I think it was a worthwhile investment.   :twocents:

I paid for it last year and enjoyed the course.  He has a bunch of good information, probably 80% geared towards archery and 20% to rifle.  There are also several good discount codes.

Appreciate it. I didn't grow up hunting and have never gone with anyone with much experience so it's been a learn on the go thing. Im gonna sign up.

Check out Randy Newburg's stuff on YouTube. A decent amount won't apply directly to you while hunting in Washington, but learning how he breaks down elk behavior by time frame (pre rut, peak rut, etc) and applying that to habitats I hunt here really helped me build elk knowledge quickly. He's got a great podcast called "Elk Talk" for some medium to advanced techniques in it once you get your legs under you!
