The downside of a woodchuck stampede
« on: February 26, 2019, 12:47:39 PM »
Handloading takes about 8 minutes per shell. twenty shells would take just short of 3 hours.
On the plus side, a coyote or two a day is manageable.
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.

I must be hauling, from starting with cleaned brass to sizing, priming, filling, a putting a pill on I did 50 in about 2 hours. But I do each step to all at once and just have a desk in a room- no distractions. Bullet every 8 minutes when I fling 4 per missed coyote and I’d have to buy a chair for my reloading bench!
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

The part that takes the longest is loading. The load has to be +/- 0.01 of a grain.
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.

If you pick the powder that meters the best you can load lots faster.  Back when I shot NMC Highpower I could load 100 in about 60 minutes.  Just need to cut out the wasted motion and find a powder that shoots good and meters well.  Also need a reliable powder measure and the hand operated ones would be faster than the electronic ones for this purpose.

Lee turret press and rcbs charge master get me 1 round every 20 seconds or so. Everything is as accurate and consistant as my calipers.
