No doubt about it.  Unfortunately, caribou don't elicit the emotional support from most people that wolves do.  Wolf recovery has been a meteoric success and caribou herds have taken a nosedive that may be irreversible.

Screw the sacred wolves, they were exterminated for a reason.

Maybe Mitch Friedman at Conservation NW can send his super spectacular range riders to save the caribou :chuckle:

Truth is the only way to successfully save the caribou is to trap, poison, helicopter shot wolves

Crazy left wing eco terrorist groups like Conservation NW have always fought this

Mitch Friedman at Conservation NW cfirst helped  destroy the forests in the eco terrorist group Earth First and continues his environmental rampage on the caribou

Disgusting

^ not really.  CNW supported the wolf call when we were using a helicopter to shoot them an the Selkirk mountains.  Try again.

Also, shooting wolves is not the "only way".  It's an important part, but only a temporary fix.  If we want caribou to recover we need to address the landscape issues.  BC is still cutting old growth forest and punching roads into caribou habitat every day.  That will have to stop if we want to save the species, then moose populations will need to be hammered back and winter recreation will need addressed.

It's going to take all of that and there doesn't seem to be the social will right now.  It's a matter of values.

^ I certainly don't need to try again. Your views are very obvious with all your posts over the years and in support of guys like Mitch Friedman and things like Hillary Clinton, while mine are the complete opposite. Even Mitch Friedman has to make decisions that go against his true beliefs once in a while so he doesn't lose too many of his followers like many other liberals seem to be doing these days.

PS, the caribou are gone, get over it. And yes, I would much rather have caribou walking the mtns of the NE, not the wolves.

Here is an article from the same scientist who conducted a study on Canadian woodland caribou and their primary source of mortality.

https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C48&q=Rob+serrouya+caribou&oq=Rob+Serrouya+cari#d=gs_qabs&u=%23p%3DHgsXy3cykrkJ

Wolves were listed as the primary source of adult caribou mortality. This scientist does have a track record of studying these animals, when he says that wolves have to be reduced to save them, I'd say you would be hard pressed to find someone who knows better!

No one is arguing that.  Wolf populations have to be reduced if we want woodland caribou on the landscape.  If we want to keep caribou we can either kill wolves annually in the recovery area and continue in perpetuity, or we can kill wolves while we work to restore the landscape to a less "wolf friendly" condition, one that existed before major landscape level timber harvest and development

I was just trying to add more sources to the discussion. Not arguing with anyone here. Absolutely agree with you, in the first study mentioned, they spoke of how blocking logging roads had a positive impact on caribou populations. Seems like most answers to biological questions are multi-faceted and this case is no exception to that.

It is a complicated and multi-faceted issue for sure.  Thanks for the additional links!

OFF TOPIC for a second. This has what Ribka said. I worked on a GREEN housing development between Monroe and Maltby, million dollar homes. EARTH FIRST went in there after we left and burned 2-3 down because they weren't GREEN enough for EARTH FIRST.

Sorry, Carry on !
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Quite a ways off topic.  Earth first doesn't have anything to do with the caribou project.  CNW doesn't really either, other than drafting a position statement supporting the wolf cull to save the Selkirk herd.  Rasbo is barking up the wrong tree, again.
