There are also some quality hunts in SE AK. Bruce Parker of Parker Guide Service (alaskaboathunts.com) has a good outfit and harvests some nice bears every year.

Never hunted the Peninsula but know many that have. Lance Kronberger of Freelance Outdoor Adventures  (https://freelanceoutdooradventures.com/) has a good outfit.

Spring hunts are fun and hides are great if you get them early, before they start rubbing. There is typically a much larger area to hunt and boars are easier to spot.

Fall hunts can be much more dramatic because you are relegated to hunting salmon streams with a higher concentration of bears. That can be good or bad...  A lot of bears, but more animals to navigate through n you are more likely to harvest a sow in the fall. Hides can be scragglier in the fall depending on the time.

Lots of options n $40k is probably about right to plan on.

Some huge bears on Baranoff. In the fall, you just wade up the feeder streams and choose your bear

In spring of 2017 I enjoyed a successful interior grizzly hunt in the Brooks Range with two guides/outfitters. They also both offer brown bear hunts. Outstanding guides/outfitters and I'm happy to share their info:

If SE AK browns are an option, I'll throw out Alaskan Raven Guides in Sitka as someone to check in with.  I know the McLeod's and they are stand-up guys.  Get some nice bears every year, and the pricing on their website seems relatively reasonable @ $20,500 for a 10 day hunt.
