Raffle permit question
« on: April 29, 2019, 01:23:50 AM »
On a raffle permit like the westside elk permit which is good for Sept.1-Dec.31. Is it like a multi-season tag and you can use any weapon or are you still tied to the weapon you chose for your regular elk tag?

Any weapon at any time during those dates.  Raffles are in addition to your general tag.

Just so you know out of state hunters spend thousands of dollars on these permits

The raffles are a defacto auction.

People still win buying only 1 ticket. There's always hope.

Most of them are in state hunters these days.

The raffles are a defacto auction.

And this.

Since the tickets have to be bought in person at a state vendor, I'd assume that really limits the out of staters.  I guess they could have some kind of broker in state that buys them a bunch or make a trip over to buy them.  I've looked at the website and it hasn't updated in a while.  I get a couple every week and just looking at the numbers on the tickets leads me to believe quite a few are being sold early.  I'm coming up with over 900 already just for westside elk.  So, eastside elk must be a couple thousand by now.  Think the drop in permits or the rise in hoof rot is driving extra ticket sales?  None of the cashiers I've talked to have known how to do raffle tickets--said I'm the only one they've ever had ask.  Someone, somewhere is buying them, though.

Yup guys/gals buying a bunch of tickets early to flood the raffles and discourage other common joe blows from buying tickets.  That's what is going on this year and has been for several years now.

Not going to work.  I'm planning on buying a few more than last year.

I'm thinking if you want to shoot a moose in WA, sooner is better.  Moose don't have favorite animal status, so they are in real trouble.

The website still isn't updated since Apr 22.  My estimate for westside elk is a little over 1,600 tickets sold already.  Wonder what it will be like when (if) people start buying a lot near the deadline?
