.222 Remington

My brother in law passed away a few years ago and I have been asked to find a new owner for his rifle. When she handed it to me today I was surprised to see something I never knew existed.... a Savage bolt action in .222 Remington.

Can any of you firearm gurus tell me about it, and what its worth? The action is smooth and the bore very clean but exterior is average. Rear sight leaf is missing. How best to sell it? (besides this thread).

Savage 340 b 2 hundred bucks in decent shape. I see rust probably 150

Good rifles though I have one in 30 30 had a chance to buy one just like yours for a hundred bucks at a garage sale still mad I was broke that day

I have bought several of these savage model 340 rifles to give to my grand kids. one went to Alaska to one grandson when he was in high school. I took rifle loading dies a lee hand press and dipper he has loaded for it and got his start with this rifle. actually took a small black bear with his in 30-30. I buy them and refinish the stock and parkerize the metal. for a rifle in this condition with rust speckels I would say around 125 to 150 would be max. I didnt look to see where you were located but if close I would pay 125. argie1891

I agree with these guys on price. It’s a sweet little shooter though. .222s are great! I’ve got a single shot and am looking for a bolt. They’re great on pelts and awesome on ground squirrels!

In the advertised condition, I would go $150.  I am an FFL and will do the transfer.

I take it back. Check armslist and gunbroker. Closer to 300-350 and selling in worst condition

Look on Gunbroker, you can see a few of them, watch what they end up selling for.... looks like approx. $250.00 would be descent selling price.

I looked last night found one in 97 percent condition with scope 225 bucks buys it now . No way this hmgun is worth more than 150 bucks imho

It's missing the rear sight and you can't put a scope on a 340B.

None of those have bids at that price level.  The one on gunbroker (with bids) is going for 180.00 and that one has been rebarreled to 300 blackout.

Ok, I have a pm in to Woodswalker. That leads to a different question....

This rifle hasnt seen light of day for many years. Certainly it isnt on any registry. So how does ffl work? My sister in law inherited it from her deceased husband. She’s ‘giving’ it to me to sell for her... I’m not keeping any of the money. Would she have to go to the ffl or what. I have sure sold / bought / traded lots of archery gear in the past  few  years but no firearms. Hmmm.

If she’s the owner she has to sign the paperwork at the FFL. If it doesn’t have a serial number they can use the description. Savage numbered everything though before it was even legally required.

 Also you can mount a scope on one quite easily.

the gun takes a side mount as it has a split receiver.

If it has never went through I would say anyone could claim ownership and sell
