AR Question
« on: May 11, 2019, 10:56:46 AM »
A friend of mine just went out and shot his new gun he "built" on a budget. He said it fired great for 10 rounds and then wouldn't shoot every other round after that. I suggested either a bad magazine or maybe it was dirty or needed lubed (I dont think it was dirty 1st time shooting it). My only AR type experience is from the military so those were usually the problems. Any other thoughts on this? I know there are some serious AR guys on here.

Had the same issue with my Grendel. If it's a brand new BCG it needs to be broken in. After about 200rounds it smoothed right out and haven't had any problems since.
The best equipment in the world is useless to the idiot who doesn't understand it.

More often than not. It’s one of four things.

Magazine
Buffer spring
Buffer weight
Gas flow. Gas port size/ gas port alignment.

It was the first time he shot it but that was my first thought.

He said the first 10 rounds were fine then it was every other round.

Be nice if that's all it is.

Thanks. I passed this along. He said the spring and magazine were new. Is the gas port problem a simple fix if that ends up being what it is?

Mine was not cleaned when I first got it. I just shot it and it was full of crud. Brake cleanered it and oiled it and that was all it took.....

Look who's back! Should we start a count down until your next "vacation" :chuckle:

My suggestion was going to be either the buffer spring/weight or the gas system. They're pretty common issues with home built guns.

Ohh now that's just mean. lol

I was going to ask if BH had to do some kind of community service or go to anger management classes as part of his road to recover program as NASCAR calls it.  ;)

This last one was lame and weak. Its today’s norm, twist the definition and suppress opinions contrary to the “Twisted” definition. It's never been difficult to cipher who shoots and builds rifles and who doesn’t. 👍
