Hey y’all. I just moved out of Washington into Oregon and am near the east of Portland. Was wondering if anyone had an idea of where to look around to start scouting. I’ve asked a few locals and they just say they don’t hunt or I can’t say. I’m not trying to find anyone’s honeyhole. I’m just trying to venture out and start exploring. Any ideas or help would be awesome

For elk, head east. Lots of OTC archery hunts in the NE units

I might get into archery soon but modern for now. Still will look around that area to try and find some “entry points”

I think modern is pretty much draw only and will limit you dramatically.

yep, modern will be tough to draw for any unit worth a darn and the ones that are halfway decent are 20+ point units

Pretty tough game to get into staying in that general vicinity there's lots of pressure and it's pretty thick country. There's some OK tags you can get with 3-5 points, but much more than that and you're in no mans land. Head east, it's what most of the Portland hunters do anyway.

Lived most of my life in Oregon. Moved to WA 13yrs ago. Most west side tags are OTC, most of east side is draw. It all depends on which flavor of elk and which flavor of habitat you prefer. Also, do you want antlers or meat? Some of the cow tags are not that hard to draw. Check the draw odds.
