18 years to draw the desert
« on: June 22, 2019, 05:09:43 PM »
Took me 18 years to draw this tag. At my age it won’t happen again. Anyone who has hunted in there or goes in there in the last 3-4 years that can help me out ? Any info on where the deer are or where I should focus my efforts at would be REAL appreciative for me. Any land owners that border the unit ? Got the early rifle tag. Can only do 1 scout trip the rest of my vacation time I’ll spend the whole season there. Thanks for any help

I recall reading past threads that you should search for where people indicated posting up near the farms was a good idea. The animals will meander from the brush to the farms and back. Finding some of those corridors could be productive. I guy I went to school with--his dad was a game biologist. When his dad drew the tag, he shot an enormous 33 inch wide buck. I wish I had the picture it was so impressive.

Great hunt, fun hunt
There are deer all over the unit, just need to walk away from the truck and start glassing.

No BS, find an access point you want to hunt, and walk away from the truck, get up on a dune, and glass for deer.
Deer will move from food plot to the dunes, the Russian Olive trees make great bedding area.

Lots of yotes out there too, they will ruin a hunt quickly  :bash: :bash: :bash:
