Mock Scrapes for Whitetails
«
on:
October 25, 2007, 11:10:55 PM »
I set out a couple mock scrapes last spring and went back to them memorial weekend. There wasn't any sign. So I put more scent out and rubbed the ground. In one area I put in a line of about 4 along an abandoned road where I will be up in a tree in November. I've been getting whitetail every year in this location and am trying to bring out the big one.
Has anyone had luck with this tactic.

i would second what miles said, and i also did it back east. not too sure why you'd expect to see sign in the spring on a scrape line, even a real one.
the ones you made in the spring surely won't even be there come november IMO.

On memorial Day weekend there was still some scrape scent in my bottles and you can never make mock scrapes too early but you can make them too late. The bottles slowly drip the scrape scent over a long period of time depending on how much is in the bottle.
I only get out to my hunting area a couple times before hunting season because its 300 miles away so I like to start early. This year I didn't see any fresh rubs but last year I saw several. This fact added to the notion of attracting more bucks into my area.
If you make a mock scrape in November, I would think it was too late. The bucks have already established them and I want to establish them in front of my favorite tree where I set my tree stand.
