Colorado Landowner tags
« on: March 02, 2025, 08:18:55 PM »
School me on Colorado Land Owner Tags. If I don’t draw the non resident tag I am applying for can I buy a land owner tag? How much do they usually charge?

Thanks for the help

It really depends on the animal and who you know to figure $$$ out. But yeah, you don't have to draw for them, you just buy the tag outright then you're g2g.

I had to be at the store in colorado with the guy who had the landowner tags in order to have the dealer print my tag. Idk if that was required or just for convenience.

My colorado pronghorns were 1500 and 2000.

Totally depends in the unit, season, and if the tag is valid for the private landowner's property only, or unit wide.

Been probably 15-20 years since we bought one, but we used to buy them in the off years when we didn't have the points to draw normally (unit wide so we could hunt where we wanted).  That was when our unit took 2-3 points to draw though, and the LO tags were around $500.  Nowadays it takes ~4x the points, or ~6x the money.  No longer an option for us unfortunately.

It used to be easy to find landowner tags, but Colorado stopped the sale of tags to tag brokers. Also, Colorado will not give you the list of landowners who got tags, even with a FOIA request.

I have the best luck finding tags on Monster Muleys and occasionally on e-bay.

Prices vary depending on how good the unit is and demand at the time. They start around $500 and go up to $10k+
