spring bear question
« on: March 31, 2009, 09:05:32 PM »
I'm fairly new to the bear hunting thing and of course didn't put in for spring bear but since everyone is chatting about it, good time to ask.

This Monroe area I read about, where can I get more info on where it is and what timber companies allow hunting?

Do they only allow for spring bear, not fall?

I really want to start looking for a good bear for the fall, is it good to scout this early or no?

I know nothing about the Monroe unit but if there are bears in there in the spring and you can hunt them in the fall you would probably find them there in the fall. To hunt bears you basically need to figure out what they are eating at whatever time of year you are hunting them and focus on those food sources. Bears eat lots of different things though so you need to keep that in mind. But do consider that even though they might be somewhere in the spring they might not be there in the fall. It just depends on what foods are available. Bears will travel considerable distances to key in on prime foods. Rufous.

I was going to scan the map they sent me, but its about 1 1/2 times the size of my scan printer...Green Crow and Long View are the lumber companies in that specific area that allow the hunting.

I am not sure if they are open in fall or not (I would assume, but we know what that does). Just check your regs, it is more than likely a "walk in only" situation, but I cant say for sure, in the fall. I usually hunt snoqualmie or skagit for bearskies.

Personally, if I didnt draw for spring, but I wanted to hunt come Aug 1st, I would just scout some areas, find some spots where berries will grow and hit it then.

Bears are not tough to find in Sept. Find berries, find bears. The less people, the better.

Good luck.

Scan it in overlapping sections and put it back together in a photo editing program. Another option is to take a couple digital photos of it.
