700r4 rebuild
« on: July 29, 2019, 09:33:57 PM »
Inherited a couple or k20 silverados. 87 and 85. The one I wish to tackle first needs the 700r4 rebuilt or replaced. Does anyone know a guy or shop that can do this in the pierce county. Any information is appreciated!

stay away from trc  :twocents: you can probably buy a gm unit through a dealer like speedway with a 3-100k warranty and be money ahead , Jasper also offers a good transmission.

I replaced my 700r4 with a turbo 350awhile back. A plus transmission in south hill did it for me. On meridian. I was happy.

Exactly what he said, trc has screwed a lot of people I myself one of them. Ordered a brand new torque converter with my 700r4 for my suburban and when I went to prefill it before putting it in, the converter had rust and water in it. They refused to warranty the converter and said I ruined it and I swear on my life that's how it came out of the box direct from there rebuild center. So what I purchase another converter and get the trans in (300$). Test drove the truck and it was holding first gear bad so I rechecked the TV cable for proper adjustment and it was dead on. Checked line pressure and it was perfect. Decided to take the truck to trc and let them diagnose it and suddenly no reverse as I tried to pull it onto the trailer. Took it to a trc repair center and they said I burned up the new trans ( I had driven it not even out of the shop parking lot, less then a 1/4 mile) I fought to get it warrantied and they settled at I pay for the installation of a new trans. Took them nearly 3 monthes to get my truck back to me ( I work in a shop as a professional mechanic, if I ever took more then 2 days on a flat rate job like this I'd be losing money and have one hell of a hot headed customer wanting there truck back) and when I crawled underneather the fuel lines were not bolted to the bell housing like they should be, my head pipes were off kilter and rubbing the passenger side shackle, both head pipes were leaking at the manifold and the driver side manifold flange was missing a bolt. Brought the truck home on the trailer took it for a test drive and I have no speedometer. Fought with them another month and they couldn't figure it out after having the truck again for 2 weeks. Worst automotive ordeal I have been through by far. That sort of treatment to a customer is unexcusable. That being said I have installed many Jasper reman units and each has lived to it's warranty and further. I highly recommend Jasper products both engines and transmissions

thank you guys  a lot. A buddy who races chevys just have me a contact for his guy. I would rather keep the 700r4 so I can keep overdrive... the other k20 was over heated once and real good too I guess so once I get this trans to scientist I’m going to start tearing some heads off. Good this it’s almost hunting season
