Ridgefield Youth Hunt
« on: September 09, 2019, 07:39:10 PM »
I am considering taking my son down there as the WWA youth hunt up here is the same day as the Everett Coho Derby.  We have friends in the area to stay with but they don't waterfowl hunt, so I'm in the dark as to whether it would be a worthwhile trip.  We aren't looking for 7 birds, just a place with a quality experience (non-circus, getting there at 4 am for a spot, fistfights in the dark, etc) in a new area and a good chance at a duck or two.  From the limited research I could do, it looks like spoonies are the big ticket which would be cool as we maybe see a couple of those a year where we hunt.

I would appreciate any info you are willing to share on this thread or via PM.  We have a dog and more than enough gear for any situation.

Stein...let us know how it goes...this is the first year my son can do the youth hunt. We are set up with my brother this year but wouldn't mind making a trip next year. Best of luck to you and your son.

My son did that hunt every year he was eligible to. Had some fantastic youth hunts there. Put in for the draw to up your chances of a great draw, but even if he doesn't get a draw go anyway because there are always a ton of blinds left. very few draws ever show up. WWA does a good job for the kids donuts ,prizes and other goodies before the morning draw and a barbeque at lunch time.

My daughter and I will be going down this year.  She sent in her postcard.  I am expecting to learn the results of the drawing next week.  I have high hopes for Ridgefield because the Yakama Nation Youth Day didn't happen because they didn't show to open their gate.  We went to the McNary youth day last year and it was great.  We will not be able to go to that one this year though because I will be out of town that weekend most likely.

Has anyone heard back from them yet?  Only a couple weeks to go and my daughter has received no notice.  She sent her postcard in when she was supposed to.

Thanks,

Curt

I dropped off card at deadline, and they said to hear back in a few weeks. I would guess possibly by end of this week or first of next week.
