Like many of you, I don't drink much in camp. A cold refreshing beer really hits the spot after a long day, but more than one and I'm on my way to sleepy time. Cans of Widmer hef if you can find them are the way to go. My opinion would be that if you like hefs, you won't like IPA's, they're significantly hoppier. I can't stomach most IPA's but i'm kind of a wimp. I also like Tripels. They're usually not very carbonated, with can be a letdown sometimes, but many they're smooth, with good flavor, and a IPA type ABV, so you rarely need more than one. I get a Pike's Brewing CO one at Safeway called Monks Uncle. It's tasty but I need a nap when I'm done. Again, kind of a wimp.

I am a one a day beer guy at camp.  Going to 9 days so need a 12 pack in case i slip an extra beer in a day or two.  Going to look for Widmer in the can at Safeway.  Or even Pyramid Hef in a can would be good.  Not concerned on price as it will be the only beer I drink until next year so might as well splurge.

It may be different down there, but here in Marysville, the Fred Meyer and the Haggens have WAY better beer selections than Safeway. Just a thought.

Not a beer snob here, but a beer LOVER, i love beer most any and all beer from lawnmower beer to snooty jackelope beer (i just don't wear a cardigan when i drink it and i dont really know whats in it or what region it came from  :chuckle:) but pour me a cold one and im all over it.
With that said my wife likes to just pick up random sixers for me to try, mostly she buys by the look of the label  :dunno:, but thats fine by me as my beer fridge always a very diverse selection at any given time.

One that was in it recently that you might like was a Blonde Ale by Faded Flannel Brewing company (which sounds all hoody toody but is a label owned by Albertsons and brewed by some brewer for them but looks all craft so the hipsters will buy it )
Or a tried and true beer you might also like that has been around awhile is a Scotch Ale by Pike Place brewing called Pike Kilt lifter.

Now me personally i would rather have a Blonde in camp then a Kilt lifter   :chuckle:
But both are good and not over powering.  :twocents:
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Yep... I'm trying stuff all the time. I can't stand the malty stuff. Also can't do stouts and not a big fan of porters. Mostly, give me some citrusy IPA's that aren't super heavy and I'm a happy camper. Session beers are typically lower in alcohol content so you can drink more of them over a longer period of time... a session....good ones for elk camp.

Fremont Summer Ale. Orange can. Lots of flavor, but not too bitter or Rogers Pilsner...my personal favorite lighter beer to drink. I'm not much of an IPA guy.

Nobody mentioned it, so I will.  Montucky Cold Snacks are great camp beers, even better when the tallboys were on sale for $4.99 at MT Town Pumps.

The best beer by far is the celebration beer after getting the animal taken care of.  It's our tradition to not go out for dinner unless the hunt was successful and that beer always tastes the best.

Sierra Nevada is solid. Still tastes good warmish too if you don't have a way to keep it cold after a long hike.

Well if we happen to stop in each other's camp we don't have to worry about the other one drinking all off our beer.

Irish Death and Black Butte Porter are my go to's. You can keep your IPAs, well maybe I'd have 1 or 2.
