Help please
« on: September 13, 2019, 01:20:22 AM »
I saw a HUGE (7x7) on the hill behind my house tonight. He bugled and I cow called for over an hour. When he walked out of the treeline I was 135 yards away and on the other side of the draw. The terrain makes it so he almost has to come out in a fifty yard patch of timber. I was thinking I would show up every afternoon and get set up on the same side of the draw he came out at. Is this practical to think he would come back out again at some point in the next week? I would sit up there as long as it takes every day for the rest of hunting season. I would have to get in there and set up before he comes out because getting to that side of the draw is only one way in and it’s heavy brush. Any advice on what I should do?

Wait until rifle season

No chance of that. Besides, it’s the Yale unit.

Set up a game cam or two and try to pattern him. Water source? Favorite food spots?
If it's a resident buck you have a few weeks before early archery season is over.
If you get too aggressive you may push him out of there.

Went up again tonight. He was there with his cows in the middle of the trail. Man he is huge. I circled around and got to 70 yards and the wind shifted then he slowly walked into the timber. I’m going up again tomorrow afternoon, I’ll bring up a couple of cameras.

Just my 2 cents but if you are seeing him, I don’t think you should put up cameras. Just adds more human scent to the area! If he has cows he might be there for a bit, especially if the herd has food. Keep after him and good luck!

Cameras ain't gonna kill him and you already know you want to kill him.

Get within 70 yards of him again and snap some sticks and bugle. Might want to familiarize with the frontal shot
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.
