there is a spot in the WDFW that allows you to enter the number on an ear tag and it will tell you what, when and where the tag was put in. It pretty cool. It'll tell you what drugs were used,  shelf life, safe to eat ect.
I was putting in random numbers and saw all kinds of info.

Depending on the location.  It could also be a ear tag from a tribal project.
