New Model 70 Winchester by FN
« on: April 02, 2009, 08:59:29 AM »
So has anybody seen or fired the new Model 70 that is being build by FN?  I just got the new catalog from Winchester and it looks like a pretty nice rifle.  Looking on the net and there isn't a whole lot of reviews just some stuff posted by Winchester.  Brochures touting that it is a 1 MOA rifle.....  Anyway just wondering if you've seen one or shot one.  Might have to head over to Sportco and see if they have one on the shelf.

I played with a couple of them. The metal work is more finished, filing/polishing, but the bluing seems more black and the checkering on the bolt handle is softer than the originals. Wood is finished better but lesser quality grain in the wood and checkering again, seems soft compared to original. I know, the featherweights used to be glass bedded don't know about these new ones, the synthetics are pillar bedded though. Also, they say they improved the trigger, really, is that possible? I don't think so. Not a bad rifle for $800 in my opinion, but not as good as pre-64s and the last couple couple years of the original productions.

I have one in a 7mm/08 featherweight   Great action.   Shoots all ammo well and mine shoots best with accubonds.  Have had it for two years and take it over my 300 ultra mag.  My wife thinks the rifle is hers but I have claimed it as mine.

1arrow- I think you might have the last of the Winchesters.  Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Winchester shut down in '07 and FN take over in late '08?  Might have to go to a couple of local shops and see if they have any on the shelf.
