Asking for a friend.
« on: October 06, 2019, 07:50:27 AM »
I put this here, because of the animal in question. A friend picked up a badger last night, it was a road kill. He says it was still moving or at least twitching, so its fresh, unmangled and in excellent condition. The question is, how are badgers classified?  Small game or furbearer? He'd like to take it to a taxidermist and have something done. But he's not sure if his small game licence, is exceptable at the taxidermist, for the paperwork required. Hope this makes sence, I'm not a word smith.  Thanks in advance!

I don't believe it is legal to pick up badger road kill in WA state, only deer and elk.

He is going to have problems.
The only legal method of take  for badger is trapping and the season is closed presently.
Plus it is not legal to pick up roadkill.

OK, thank you for the replies. So the only thing to do at this point, is throw away a near perfect specimen? Seems like a total waste.

Yep, he can't pick it up and if he brought it to a Taxidermist he would have to give him his "Fur Trapping License number"
Plus its not that good (PRIME) yet.

Yes Sir the bad part is he has to throw it away and yes its a waste of fur.

Is that accurate?  If I was out hunting and stumbled on a rambling badger, I'm not allowed to shoot it?

ETA- Guess I've never thought to look up badger before.

Beaver, Badger, Weasel, Marten, Mink, Muskrat, and River Otter   N/A   Nov. 1 - Mar. 31   May only be taken by trapping during the trapping season (Nov. 1 - Mar. 31). He could just throw it in the freezer for now until he figures out how to cover his butt.   :dunno:
