Hunting Season 2019 did not disappoint! Like past years, the season began with me checking the zero on my trusty rimfire, and after confirming I could still put 5 rounds on a roadside sign at 100 yards I was off to meet my buddies Don, Jerry, and Joe for our usual out of state hunting tour.
The first stop on our Journey was MT, and after noticing that at least half of the Hunt WA members were casting their lot near Broadus, we decided to head southwest into Yellowstone and surprisingly found that we were the only hunting camp to set up shop. (We even found a couple of cool heating vents to help heat the tent!).
Things unfortunately got off to a rough start when Don realized that Joe had used some of our pooled camp funds to help entice the Manager at the Chucky Cheese in Fairbanks AK into giving his son a job. Apparently, the lure of obtaining 2nd degree of kinship and thereby avoiding guide fees was heavy on Joe’s mind, and he thought we’d forgive him if he showed up at camp with the requisite amount of beer. Joe, however, was short on funds so he settled on two coolers of Natural Light and Don was steamed because he didn’t drink, “cheap beer.”
Things escalated further the next morning when We all headed out of camp to hunt. Unbeknownst to the group, Don circled back to check one last time if there was perhaps a Budweiser at the bottom of the coolers. In his effort to “drain the coolers,” he threw several of the Natural Lights into a nearby snow bank. Upon returning to camp, Jerry noticed the cans in the snow and accused Don of a liquid snow throw. Don, of course, was adamant that he had done nothing wrong but Jerry demanded a camp tribunal be held. Jerry and Joe were adamant that Don be tossed out of deer camp, but Don and I saw things differently; especially considering that anytime we tried to introduce a counter argument to Jerry’s claims he just pounded the table and yelled, “The gentlemen will suspend.”
Fortunately, we were able to settle the deadlocked vote with a match shoot, and Don and I but all 10 of our rounds on target so Don was allowed to stay...
