Superfeet.  Green.

I still prefer the thick wool inserts in the bottom of my boots. I'm sure you can get them online but Work/Sports in Enumclaw carries them too.

Sole Ed Viesturs are the best I have found.  I prefer the ones with the cork like bottoms.  Stick in the oven for 5 minutes, into your boot, then wear the boots so the foot bed forms to your feet.

Are you interested in inserts as far as cushioning and durability or for stabilization where you would want custom inserts cast from your feet.

Yes.  Those.  I thought the same thing.  Try them.

I also wondered about the wool, they are non insulated so I thought that may help plus a little cushion

Most boot manufacturers are starting to put garbage insoles in their boots fully expecting you to buy an aftermarket insole. If you have smaller arches then superfeet are good with the green color being the most popular. If you have taller arches then look at Sole insoles. I prefer to run Sole's and will buy the thickness (thin/medium/thick) depending on the footwear. Some boots you may want a thicker insole to take up the volume and give a better fit. The other option is to buy flatirons to take up volume for a tighter fit. Currently I run Sole medium/active (red insoles) in three pairs of my Asolo boots. I run the thin/active Sole (grey insoles) in my everyday footwear.

I have flat arches with inward rolled ankles. I wear powerstep pinnacle maxx inserts in my boots to correct my step while hiking and hunting. They are heavily canted outward to correct the roll. I use the regular pinnacle in my work shoes which is less aggressive.

Insoles really depend on your foot and gait, I would research that as what works for one guy would be misery for another.
