killin gopher's the hillbilly way

I have this beat up old benjimin  air rifle that was missing the rear sight and I also had a simmons scope in pretty bad shape. well with a little super glue, some cardboard shims and hillbilly engineering I cobbled togeather a ugly ass rat killin machine. I sighted it in at 10 yards and it grouped 3 shoots into about 3/4 in which aint bad concidering the 10 pound trigger. took it out and killed 2 sage rats at about 25 yards. the .20 caliber is a noticebly better killer than my sons .177 and its quiet enough it dont bother the nieghbors. overall I'm pretty happy with it. may even have to look at buying a decent scope and real mounts.

In about 5 weeks we'll be making our annual trip to Oregon for a few days of blowing up Sage Rats. That's a kick in the pants. Can burn up a lot of ammo.

Ive got one without a scope .177 kill the crows that get in the feeders.

Shooting sage rats sounds like a blast. The only thing around my place we can plink at are the starlings. We used to shoot them with the Gamo or RWS, but now we have graduated to a .22 with shorts They are actually pretty challenging to hunt. They are not as abundant as they are in the cities, they will spook real quick and we wont see them for a couple days. Actually right now, while they are nesting is the best season around our house.

you have to see it in person to fully appriciate the full hillbillyness of it but it killed 3 more rats today.

When I a youngster, my grandpa used to pay me to shoot sage rats in his alfalfa feeds every spring and summer.  I made a blind out of a huge cardboard box, with fold out windows on each side.  I would set it next to the holes and wait for the rats to poke their heads out of their holes.  If nothing showed up, I would do my best impression of a sage rat peep and try and call them out.    Calling sage rats never seemed to work though.    Those were the days.
