First Turkey certificate and pin
« on: March 02, 2020, 10:27:56 AM »
WDFW sent me a few e-mails months ago advertising their first turkey program where you send your harvest data to them and they send you a certificate.  Once you receive that certificate, you can register with the national turkey foundation and they will send you a commemorative pin.

I thought it would be a nice addition to my turkey mount to display the preserved fan along with the certificate and pin.

I sent my data to wdfw in November and received the following e-mail half way through January. " Good afternoon,
Unexpected circumstances are causing delays in issuing First Turkey certificates. Your request has been received and will be processed by the end of February. Thank you for your patience!"

We're now getting into March... Seems like someone dropped the ball on a very simple program.  My wife is getting sick of seeing my half-done project and I can't blame her.

I'm curious if anyone else applied for one of these certificates personally or for a family member or friend.

Never had, but With a program run by WDFW is sadly does not shock me.  I would finish out your tail mount.

Kinda just the way WDFW works with turkey records. I've completed the state mini slam 7 times and have always sent in the required paperwork and hunter report submitals. Out of those 7 times I think they only sent me the accomplishment pin maybe 3-4 times.

Update:

I was informed the same day I posted this, (I think WDFW reads the forum) that the person who was in charge of this program quit in December and they had trouble backfilling the position during the holidays.  I was assured they're now in the mail and on their way.

I kinda feel like a squeaky wheel that got greased.  I hate squeaky wheel people.

Who knows, maybe you helped others get their pins too. Now you can be the helpful squeaky wheel person.

I was about to make some phone calls for you.  Call Rich Rutherford from the National Wild Turkey Federation once you get that cerificate and they should get that pin off to you. If not give me a yell.  I will get it sorted out for you.  Yes people from WDFW are on the forum.
