Hammer bullets?

I have always used ttsx bullets in my .308 and 6.8spc.
Looking for something different for hunting with my Garand.
Anyone ever use or try Hammer bullets?

They're excellent bullets, but I'm not sure if I'd use them in a Garand. The bullet tips will get busted up pretty bad when cycling through the action, especially on the SH designs. That can lead to expansion problems, just like having the tips clogged on VLD style bullets like Bergers. I'm not very familiar with Garands, so maybe they're a little more gentle to the bullets than ARs are.

From a performance perspective the Hammers are all very consistent. The front petals shear off and the base of the bullet continues to penetrate. The weight of the remaining shank depends on the specific bullet. The SH line retains more weight than the HH line.

I’m a mushroom hunter so those hammer pics didn’t excite me.  But if they shoot the best I’d use em.

Reviving this thread to see if anyone has used a hammer bullet on game animals.....if so, how did they perform?  I am currently loading the 124 gr HH in a 6.5 creedmoor for hunting deer and bear this year.  It will be my daughters rifle so I was looking for a tough lightweight bullet that will perform.  So far they appear to shoot great.  The ladder test was a roller coaster (literally) with velocities all over the place.  With that said the ladder test group shot 1 1/4 MOA.  I picked to narrow nodes and will shoot them looking for which groups the best.  I also have 140 grain accubonds loaded for another rifle and they shot surprisingly well out of her rifle, so I have a back up if I'm not happy with the hammers.

York has used them and absolutely loves them. They're monolithic so I want to say he had to play with seating depth like a Barnes to get them to group well

No, I'm positive these are gonna shoot great.  I did a ladder test in 0.2 grain increments.  I had approx. 25 rounds in the test.  All but the last 5 shots grouped super well.....literally 1.5" at 200 yards.  Considering the velocities ranged from 2650 fps to 2900 fps and the group was sub MOA, I'm pretty convinced they will shoot and likely be 0.5 or less MOA.  At the very top end of my powder range I started get very minor extractor marks so I didn't push the load any harder.  I would plenty happy with 2700-2900 fps out of this rifle for my daughter if the bullets perform well on animals.  The only reason I pose the question is to hear others experience on animals.  Last think I want is my daughters first large game animal to run off wounded.  I may take the rifle out first of august and see about putting a bear down just to confirm performance is what I expect.  If not, I can easily enough switch the 140 grain accubond for my duaghter.
