Seeking GPS Watch Recommendtions
« on: May 25, 2020, 10:36:22 AM »

Hi all!  I'm looking for a GPS watch, and I loved the Garmin Foretrex 401 I had for years.  I've done some research, and the Garmin Foretrex 601 looks pretty nice.  Does anyone have any experience with either the 601 or another GPS watch you really like?  Thanks in advance.  :)

May not be exactly what you're looking for, but I have been very happy with my Suunto Traverse Alpha.

I've owned a Suunto Traverse, Garmin Fenix 3 and Foretrex 701 (ballistic version of the 601).  For hiking and general exercise use, the Fenix 3 is by far the best.  Garmin Connect is great to track your hikes and all the stats.  If the Foretrex integrated with the online interface like the Fenix does, it'd be a little closer, but I'd still probably give the nod to the Fenix.

Thanks a lot - I'll check out the Suunto and Fenix next.  Appreciate the help!  :)

If you can pack a phone with you, the price is right and they are much easier to use and sort through your data.  Tons of apps out there for whatever you happen to be doing.

Stein, I know that's an option for some, but I love for it to be wrist wearable, and a separate battery from my phone.  That way if the phone dies or has something else happen to it, I've still got my GPS and a plan for getting out of wherever I've gotten myself into.  Appreciate the insights, though!  :)
