Times have Changed and so have the Crops

When my Dentist retired early, saying he could make more money raising Alfalfa in Eastern Washington, I should have seen the writing on the wall.
As Kids growing up our Families saw plenty of action, with the Big Northern Greenheads gliding South into our Spreads, their crops loaded with Corn.
But as the years flew by, the crops in the fields were no longer attracting the Waterfowl. The Duck numbers started to drop and the Goose population began to increase.
There seemed to be a shift in the Flocks from the Potholes Reservoir and Seep Lakes, over to the Columbia/Snake River Area.
Makes me wonder if the Migrating Flocks knew where the food was now growing and told each other they needed to change their course or starve.
Like the Birds, we Hunters too needed to change from our Favorite Hunting Grounds of many years, or settle on coming back empty handed.

Oh they absolutely change their patterns based on feed. Just like around here, in years the valley has a lot of barley we’ll have much more ducks hitting the fields. Wheat doesn’t hold them.

Removing the tree farms and putting in more circles down in the Boardman area is gonna inherently draw some away. Although I’m interested to see what happens when the coal fire plant closes. That’ll probably hurt some of the best field hunting I have access to, but expect the river hunting to be just as good or better.
