UPDATED Animal sound?
« on: July 31, 2020, 10:04:17 PM »
I was out camping in the mountains recently towards Rainier and was woken up at 2am to this noise for 25 minutes. I say cougar. Thoughts. And yes, I have ruled out bigfoot. LOL.

UPDATED: I think you guys can hear it now.  What do you think?

Did you click on the attachment and open it using a video app? It was recorded on a Samsung S9 video. I will try to upload it another way.

Tried it on video, was still hard to hear, but my guess would be bears.
Probably talking smack to each other over some berry bush.
.
Bears will threaten each other when they get to close, never really coming to a fight, but a lot of posturing.
This sometimes is an open mouth growl...
They almost look like they're gonna angry kiss.
.
Don't know much about cougar vocals, but usually higher pitched from the little I have heard.
And I have seen them mating at NW Trek, so know what that sounds like.
.
But then, I am only guessing...

The cool part is that this sound went on for 15 minutes, then the coyotes showed up and howled for 10 minutes because they were pissed this whatever was in their turf.  About 3 minutes after the coyotes were done, this noise started up again for 5 minutes, then the coyotes returned and kept howling and getting more pissed.  The coyotes and whatever this is kept going back and forth for 25 minutes until they moved on.  It was cool to listen to for sure.  I love mother nature when she puts on a show, even when disturbing my sleep.

HuntNfish, I too have been awakened out of a sound sleep at 2 am, with the same strange sound penetrating the stillness of the night. Hard to get back to sleep again, to say the least !  :chuckle:
