Mark David, 66, was hunting with a bow and arrow Saturday in Tillamook County, west of Portland, when he shot a bull elk. However, the animal escaped and David could not find it before nightfall.
The next morning, David and another hunter went out to try and find the elk. After tracking it down, David tried to shoot it again, but the animal charged him and gored him in the neck with its antlers.
David’s compatriot tried to perform life-saving measures but the man died from his injuries. According to the Oregon State Police, the animal was tracked down again and killed and its meat was donated to the county jail after the investigation concluded.
