West Klickitat
« on: September 27, 2020, 01:36:42 PM »
Looks like all the timber company land is closed in West Klickitat... I see the DNR land is open. I wonder if the timber company land will open before early muzzle starts October 3rd.

Yakama Nation v. Klickitat County et al., affirming the reservation status of 121,465 acres within the southwestern corner of the Yakama Reservation, including Mt. Adams and the Glenwood Valley. That means the Yakama Nation has sole criminal jurisdiction in that area over tribal members, irrespective of any crimes they commit, barring those that necessitate involvement by the FBI.

The way I understand it all those timber companies still own their land and can allow hunting on it. Yakama Nation just has criminal jurisdiction in that area over tribal members.

paper is still all closed there... as far as the Tribe area, they did redraw / reestablish old lines i think last year.. Glenwood north was most of the argument. I have had in the past some interesting encounters with tribal folks thinking they were speaking for the police, or tribe or both.. had to square up with GPNF office in town of trout lake and their subsequent interface with tribal chief for access issues on NF trail heads in "negotiated areas" such as those up in bird creek area … by the way you DO have access to NF trail heads as spoken and negotiated with the NF and the Tribal Chief (last year) regardless what the nation members say...

I’ve also heard of camps being ransacked and even wall tents stolen up there because depending on where your at you could be on tribal land used to be a great place to recreate but it’s looking slim these days for public land that way

I’ve never had any issues with my wall tent. I was also referring to being able to hunt SDS timberland, broughton timberland, DGS timberland etc in West Klickitat.
