Bob Marshall Guided Trip
« on: November 08, 2020, 09:03:24 PM »
I know this topic has been beaten to death here, but it seems like the outfitting business is relatively transient from year to year - a lot of outfitters that I had been following last year just up and disappeared in the last year or so, and there are a bunch that I had never even heard of two years ago.

I'm looking seriously at doing a trip in 2022, with one to possibly three other Hunting buddies that I currently hunt with, and I would like some feedback from people who have recently done a guided trip with a reputable outfitter and are wiling to share their experiences, both good and bad.

The reason I'm not looking back at all the earlier posts from the years past is that I really want to get some up-to-date info in regard to who is actually operating the various outfitters now, rather than back then.

My expectation for a Bob trip is to do the early hunt in September, maybe get into some bugling bulls, and have a realistic chance at harvesting a mature bull - I don't need a 350+ animal, but I would really like to  get one 6x6 in my life to put on the wall. Is that a realistic expectation? I hunt the Blues on foot right now, hiking into the wilderness and hunting from the bottoms up, so I can put in some sweat equity on the hunt and hit it hard - I don't expect to be handed anything.

What kind of animals are people seeing on these hunts, and how are they hunting them?

I'm partial to the Bob because my Dad guided there years before I was born (out of the Whitetail Ranch) and I would love to experience that, but I'm open to other suggestions if someone has a truly remarkable wilderness experience that could compete with or exceed that...

If you've got intel on this, please PM me and fill me in...

I have no skin in the game on Hunting in the Bob, but I wanted to chime in on the pristine beauty that Country holds!  I used to go on 1-2 week hikes out there when I was in my teens. My favorite area was the Necklace Lakes... Man I brought my 5 wt 2 piece Fly Rod and only brought a box of size 4,5,6 Elk Hair Caddis Flies...I stopped counting the Rainbows after the 3rd day.  Saw a lot of Deer and Bear, no Elk though. Hope you find what you're looking for, best of luck!
If I'm not selling, I should be hunting, If I'm not hunting, I should quit!

The Bob is an amazing place, I would go there for a great backcountry experience, but I wouldn't go there if my primary goal was a mature elk.  There are places where your odds of that would be much better, so it depends on what is most important to you.

Plenty of mature bulls are killed there every year, but the density is much lower than other places so the odds aren't as good.

His reasoning is the sentimental value.

To the OP:  Best of luck.  Sounds like a heck of a trip
