where is the cowiche feed station
« on: November 02, 2020, 11:43:32 AM »
I have a 65+ permit for hunting through November 11 for cow. And hope cow elk will start migrating toward the feed station.
Thanks

Just start asking questions I can see the herd from my house all winter long at that station. Regarding the location, if you go out to Cowiche/Tieton area by way of Summitview in Yakima you will get to Cowiche Mill rd at the end of the long straightaway.  Take that left on Cowiche Mill instead of going up the hill into Cowiche. Head up that road for several minutes until it turns to dirt road. If you drive a few miles up the road you will be down in the valley/creek bed but above you and to the left there is a bluff. On top of that bluff is the feeding station.

Another point of reference is the Snow Mountain Ranch hiking/wildlife viewing area. So a few minutes before Cowiche Mill turns into dirt there is a parking lot on the left with wood fence around it. The hiking trails go up Cowiche Mt. If you go up those trails till you've gained some ground over the parking lot you can look west and see a much lighter strip of land probably 1000 yards away. That lighter brown colored grass will look like a wide strip perhaps several hundred yards long. That is the feeding station. Can't hunt out of that wildlife/hiking area though unfortunately.

If we get snow there is an elk area designated on the map within Cowiche unit. In late season, people post up in that elk area (all sagebrush) and wait for the elk to come through it on their way to crossing Cowiche Mill and heading up the hill to the feeding station. That elk area is basically right across Cowiche Mill from the feeding station.

Thank you.
Heading out early Sunday morning. Just in case there is a 1 in a million chance of a spike. Then cow Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
