Choke Tube Stuck
« on: April 17, 2009, 09:05:43 PM »
How would you get the choke tube out of a 870 if it were stuck?

The one I traded my bow for is stuck.  I baught a new turkey choke for it, but can't get it installed.

let it soak with some break free or some penetrating oil on it for a while. is it exposed out the end of the barrel or do you need a wrench?

It tried soaking in wd-40.

I need something better I guess.

It needs a wrench, but I got one with my new choke.

I must say, it is a cheesy wrench though.

Kroil from both ends...top and bottom, let it soak for a day or so.
Use a GOOD wrench.
If that doesn't work then it's time to cool/heat it to loosen the bond.
Good luck...I know the feeling.

brake fluid and go get a GOOD choke wrench...the kind with the full circle and tabs for the notches.  then gently heat it for a minute and get a good grip on the shotgun and give the wrench a swift rap (with a solid wood dowel or a hammer HANDLE) along the barrel axis while applying force to loosen.

Yep I have to agree with some other penetrating oil than wd-40 and the full circle wrench. The same thing happened on my year old 870 and the flat type wrench would not loosen it, luckily my 15 yr old 870 came with the circle type, a little pb blaster the circle wrench and a small wrap from a hammer handle loosened it right up.  :twocents:
