Marmots are out
« on: April 10, 2009, 09:08:01 PM »
Well I got of work early today a decided to go see if the marmots where out. After a 1/2 mile hike and sitting for 20 min I saw my first fat marmot of the year and then another and another...  I couldn't contain myself and had to let the AR break its missing streak. I managed to hit a marmot in the head at 200 yards offhand and I couldnt believe it but the .223 50gr vmax made it do a little flip. :yike: I can wait tell next month when I can really have some fun.

I didn't know you could shoot marmots in Washington. Are just the Olympic marmots protected, and the hoary marmots fair game?

I think you can shoot the yellow-bellied variety. But Im not 100% on this.

Speaking of "yellow bellies". When I was living in a dorm at WSU (about 1972), I was required to store my rifle at the campus police station.  One spring morning there was a protest against the war in Vietnam, with hundreds (perhaps a thousand) students out blocking streets around the campus.

I picked that morning to hunt varmints, and the station duty officer asked why I was taking the rifle out.  I couldn't resist and told him "to hunt yellow-bellies".  :bdid: I had to wait an extra 20 minutes for the chief to get back to the station, so he could be sure I didn't have any intentions to harm the protesters.   :chuckle:

No people will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can any be easily subdued, when knowledge is diffused and Virtue is preserved. On the Contrary, when People are universally ignorant, and debauched in their Manners, they will sink under their own weight without the Aid of foreign Invaders.
