Recommendation for Prairie Dog Hunting
« on: June 22, 2021, 04:00:14 PM »
My brother-in-law who is a police officer in Florida with 6 years to retirement recently visited from Florida.  He has tried his hand at hunting hogs and deer a couple of times closer to home and we are working on putting together some kind of deer or antelope hunt in the Wyoming (or Montana) in the next year or two.  In the meantime, I told him about Prairie Dog hunting and after he looked up videos online, he really wants to go on a Prairie Dog hunt next summer.  Most likely my brother would also want to tag along.

Does anyone have an recommendations for places, either through land owners or guides in Montana or Wyoming?  We would probably be willing to pay for 2 days of access to some good ranches.  A bonus would be to have the option of any kind of decent public land that we might also be able to hit nearby.  Feel free to PM me or e-mail me suggestions if you are so inclined.  E-mail is cmgifford@frontier.com.

Thanks!

The closest location that I know of for Prairie Dog's is Spokane.
Unapologetically American!

There are lots of prairie dogs in eastern Montana, there are squirrels and rock chucks in WA but I'm pretty sure there are no prairie dogs, onx maps says they have prairie dog locations on onx maps.

Don't get too close to their town, the fleas are very aggressive.

I'd get in touch with a soil bank group in Montana and ask "who has problems with prairie dogs and allows hunting them".  I've made some good contacts in the past thru the soil bank and it later led to deer and antelope hunting opportunities.
