Guides in Goose Prairie
« on: July 02, 2021, 08:11:16 PM »
Looking for some guides that cover Goose Prairie with good rep and success.
My dad is a disabled Vietnam Vet with a prosthetic leg. He drew rifle tag. I will be busy with my sheep hunt before his hunt and I don’t know situation in either units at this point. Hunted both with bow but it’s been 10 plus years. I know Bumping well, but i know pack in areas, and we won’t be doing any of that.
He won’t be doing many more elk hunts and want him to have some success. So looking at guide. All advice welcome!

I've used Chinook Pass outfitters, it's been more than a few years but they seemed to know where to put their hunters.

He called them. I ran into them in Bumping years ago and they seem to be the guys in that upper Naches area.
Whoever he talked to wanted to do a drop camp and he isn’t interested in drop camp. I’m able to do that. He needs to be put on elk.
Thanks for responding!

Good luck with this hunt. I hunted there for years with a bow. lots of elk back then.
There used to be a disabled hunter access road up there. not sure if its still active.
Might work to help get him get back in where others are all on foot or horse back.
We used to camp outside of that gate and hike in every morning. Lots of bulls seen back there.

We are trying to access to disabled gate area and Naches Ranger District won’t returns his calls.
Not surprising!

The disabled gates/access are awarded access by a draw. Having a special permit in a area does not get you access to those gates.
Incase you were not aware.

If he has a disabled permit for lower body mobility. He can apply and try to draw access.

If he does let me know and I can give you more details on how to apply. However they will not just give access to those areas because of a special permit.

I’m not so sure the handicap access is still available in the Nile, at least a couple years ago the last time I hunted it during archery season the gate was wide open. People driving in and hunting. Not sure about the other seasons…

That gate on 1608 has been destroyed. Was a great area as a locked up area, but alas no more

What do you mean destroyed? The gate was there last weekend when I was up there…

Interesting I had no idea, in all honesty I never once saw a disabled hunter enter or access the area while we hunted it. But then again it was always during archery so possibly less likely.
Many fond memories of hunting in there.
Unless things have changed the gate is open until the day before archery season opens. Then she’s locked until who knows when. Probably after snow access allows?
