Went to Kenmore Gun Range Saturday, First time here, Paid for a Shotgun class ahead of time, ($85.oo for 2) the NRA instructor did NOT show UP!
Class was 9:30 to 3 P.M.ish
Range did give us 2 Rounds, (25 per) free, soo We went out at 10 A.M. did 25 each Fun, But our shoulders hurt, big-time now!
No one asked us of our shooting abilities, just a basic regiment...for the range's rule's. O.K. Fine I doo have exp. but My partner did not and shooting an olde' school shotgun that has NOT been fired in many decades!
BAD Edicite on this range. Dumn bad schooling here! He pointed it wrong 3 times in 4 minutes! Whether loaded or NOT! Range Emplopyee did NOT see this at ALL!
Hmm

It seems like you should be complaining about yourselves, nit the range. If you would have asked for help, they would have been happy to work with you. If you have experience, you’re responsible for making sure your inexperienced friend is safe.

I'll also assume that range person wasn't an employee but rather a member doing their range time that is part of their membership dues. I agree with @follow maggie, you should be looking at yourself here. If you saw your partner doing something unsafe, correct them, end of story. I also am not sure what the shotgun that hasn't been fired in decades has to do with the story?

Good on you for introducing someone to shooting. Someone taking an inexperienced shooter to the range might 1. Alert the RSOs of his inexperience upon arriving, and 2. Deal with a safety briefing with the novice themselves prior to and during the entire visit. RSOs don't have eyes in the back of or on the sides of their heads. They're unable to concentrate on everyone at the same time. However, an experienced shooter taking a novice to the range has the ability and responsibility to focus all of their concentration on that person to prevent or correct lack of muzzle control as it happens. You may take this as a bash, which it is not, or as coaching for future visits to the range. Good luck going forward.

The many times I have take a new shooter to Kenmore I have sat out 1-2 rounds so that I can stand by the new shooter and coach them on the flow of the event and gun handling. It is complicated for someone who has not done it before and can be intimidating.
Also, new shooters at the Kenmore shotgun range are supposed to go through a special round of trap where they get extra attention from an RSO focused on procedures and safety. People are supposed to identify themselves as a new shooters/first time Kenmore shooters so they can be run thru the training round. I think it is like $2 extra. Very positive experience for everyone I have seen do it.
