Few years ago, one of my hunting buddy's busted his femur (upper leg)in April.  He bow hunted with a cane that season, and I helped him pack out his deer in Nov.

sounds like it's time for you to switch to rugby! there is way less chance of being injured.

Hey one of those screws look like a deck screw? Maybe the Doc was working on his deck the previous weekend and during surgery he inadvertently put his hand in his pocket and pulled out a screw? And didn't realize it?............... :chuckle:

After the cast is off, you should do a lot work in the pool. The boyancy will help in the early days of PT.
Once you can swim a half mile in the pool, you should be good to go.
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.

yeah, I like the pool idea. Always a great way to get in shape with low impact.

OK...here's my status for this season....

Right now by fracture still is not completely healed but I have been free to do PT which is helping me get some stability in my ankle. My surgeon has given me the green light to go hunting if I continue to progress up until then. I over worked it one day which put me back a few days but I believe I will be going and at least be able to walk some good fairly level trails, logging roads and put in a few miles a day.

All I really hope to do is be able to call in something for my Father. I know a couple easy to get to places that we can work for a few days at a time without to much effort.

So I am way excited...! I just need to not do anything stupid either before I leave or while I'm there.

Good luck to all of you and I'll let you know how it turns out.

Been there. Did that!

Didn't have that long deck screw though. Did it in summer of 95. Hunted that fall.

TITANIUM STAYS COLD when you're out in the woods! The first two years I was oh so careful and not as careful as I should have been several times. I always had this uneasy feeling when hiking rough/rocky terrain. Then, in 99 (or 98, I don't remember)' I had the plate and screws removed. Much better! Foot stays warm now. It still hurts once in a while when I over do it. -Yeah many years later.
