Winter perch fishing
« on: February 21, 2022, 07:34:35 PM »
I am planning on taking out some buddies and there kids Saturday for winter perch. Normally I would wait till spring but they are moving to Texas and want to go out before they leave. Could anyone shoot some tips or pointers my way. I know the general tactics and to target then deeper but haven’t done any winter perch fishing before.

I would prefer to target lake Steven’s  as that’s my closest lake but have heard good things about lake Sammamish.

Thanks all!
Kyle

Caught a few in 70' on Washington a few weekends ago. 1 Oz weight with a suspended hook about 1' above it. Just wind drifted from 85' into 60' bottom bouncing worms. First one we caught turned into cut bait for the rest.

Same on lk wa for me.  Not seeing schools like late fall and early winter.  Fish seem scattered on the bottom.  If your not getting bit often then try another spot.

I think I am going to try stevens Saturday. Has anyone hit it recently. What depth were they at?

I will let you know how we do!

As noted, the schools seem to disperse a little this time of year. Try drifting over areas adjacent to large bays where the fish will be located in the spring when the weeds start to grow again. If you find a school, perch strips are your friend! Otherwise worms are great for prospecting.
There is not enough wilderness left in the world, or in the hearts of men.
