Older inline help
« on: May 08, 2022, 05:52:07 PM »
I was gifted a Cva hunter bolt magnum several years ago it started life in Virginia and was converted to # 11 caps when it came to WA  the problem is I can not get. A cap pressed on the nipple far enough for it to fire  pull the trigger once it seats the cap recock pull again she goes off. Would like to convert back to 209  but can't seem to locate any source for parts any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I had one that did this.

If I seated the caps VERY firmly, it fixed the problem.
I didn't really like that solution.

I hope you can find the 209 conversion.

https://www.greentophuntfish.com/cva-209-in-line-shotgun-primer-breech-plug/

I dont know anything about the company but says they have it in stock.

Maybe contact CVA and cross reference the p/n.  Also ask CVA if they still make those breech plugs for the older models and if they have inventory.

Remove your nipple. Then screw it into a nut with the same thread size. Install this into a drill or drill press and with fine sandpaper LIGHTLY take a little off the nipple until your cap seats. If you go too far you may be able to crimp your cap to hold.

By chance it's not a musket cap nipple is it?

Depends on the model.  I'm not familiar with your model.

In modern CVA models like the Wolf, Optima, Accura, etc. there is a kit to change from NW Legal to 209 primer conversion and it includes changing the firing pin along with the breech plug.  I don't know if it's the similar case with your model   Would rely on CVA for that answer.

I have an older CVA Thunderbolt Magnum that has the rear breech plug that converted from 209 primer to a different breech plug that accepted either a #11 nipple or a musket cap. I believe the hunter bolt magnum might be the same design.
