Walleye timing? When is the spawn?
« on: May 14, 2009, 09:40:18 AM »
Wondering when they go into spawn? Seems right now is a good time to fish as there pre spawn feeding?

Is post spawn feeding good too? I hear when the water warms it shuts them down abit?

Is the first of June good timing to fish post spawn? Interested in East side lakes as well, Big C.
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me to.

I'm curious to hear the answers as well, but I believe that Walleye spawn fairly early in the year.......like March or April.  That's why you always hear about the pigs being caught in January and February on the Big C.  They are full of eggs then.  I never had good luck in June on the Columbia, but then I never really figured them out and gave up and went back to catching smallmouth instead.  From what I've heard, post spawn is pretty tough fishing and it doesn't really pick up until July........
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

the spawn around here on the columbia, wallula and mcnary pool, is around the end of March, 1st of April. Basically when the water temps are 42-45 degrees.fishing is getting good now. typically about 4 or 5 weeks after peak spawn is when fishing picks up.

it will be good on the river for the rest of the year. I really like early June and late August but great days can be had from now until February

The walleye  will shut off for about three to four days after a thunder storm also. I use to fish for walleye alot out in the great lakes.

Walleye usually spawn in the high 30s and low 40s.  As with any fish, this depends on alot of factors like length of day, sunlight penetration, etc.  Since the weather just turned hot, the bite should be picking up for a few weeks before it shuts down again.
