Not selected across the board... again. Come on ID!

Curious to take a look at how many points were used in the new controlled elk archery draws.

I drew first time applying.  I’m thinking it depends on how many hunters want to hunt a specific unit.   I hardly ever run into another elk hunter.
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...

I'm sure a lot of guys did... I'm not concerned with how many points it took to draw, but how many guys sitting on 10+ points that had been putting in for rifle tags and using OTC archery as the fall back plan now burned points to hunt archery for "their unit". Tag numbers they set for elk seemed as though drawing as a second choice may not be guaranteed.

Even if they burned 5+ points I would think will have some impact on several hunts (thinking non big 3).

Anyway, end of thread hijack  :chuckle:

Not selected for me, and I am curious to see the results as well.  I'm sitting on a few points but did not want to burn them on the unit I usually hunt since it went to draw for archery so I put it as a second choice and didn't get it.  Had I put it first choice, I know I would have been selected. Definitely changes the strategy for Oregon a bit.  I now need to consider if I still buy one of the general tags or not, and go hunt it with 3K other people who didn't draw what they wanted

This is an interesting point that will take another year or two to fully play out. The OR strategy of OTC archery as fall back just became much more difficult. Maybe that is a good thing for archery hunting and the quality of the archery hunt will go up with fewer hunters.

Hate being “that guy” but where on the my-odfw site do you find your results? I apologize asking the question, I’m certain it’s right in front of my face.

Sign into your account and look under controlled hunts

On your phone look under Recreational Portfolio, then “view hunt wins”.

Dang. I assume you are putting in for a rifle hunt in one of the big 3?

Who is still planning on archery OTC? My unit went to draw only, and with not buying a idaho tag I’m kinda stuck hunting oregon. But it looks like a lot of the units still open are sage/lowland units

I will be on the Eastside somewhere since I didn't draw.  Have to do some homework to figure out where.

Unfortunately a decent eastern OTC unit is no more.  I'd head west if I were doing Oregon OTC this year.
