Fly rod ditch pickles
« on: July 13, 2022, 01:09:51 PM »
Is anyone experienced in the art of fly fishing for bass? It might be my new summer time close to home addiction. I've caught about 5 so far and man, they're a ton of fun on top water gear.
I've only got a few poppers and bass bugs in general. I'm looking to expand my arsenal. The popper in the pic caught 3 2 nights ago. The biggest one was only about 12”

Lunker!! :chuckle:

Sweet!  I’ve only caught a few bass on a fly rod.  Love fishing topwater.

As a kid that was my favorite way to catch topwater green. Floating line with a popper on the outskirts and a frog in the dollar pads. Definite sore arm workout stripping those things in all night.

Very very fun. Catching bluegill on a small popper is a great way to get kids fly fishing! Very very fun

Ban that looks fun. It's not a "fly", but you could probably do well with a curly tail type grub on an unweighted hook. Although you may go to fly fisherman hell for that.

Straight to fly fishing hell with that, but the jawbreaker is a-ok to use.

It's possible that fly fishing for bass alone may send me to fly fishing hell. I'm not sure.

Jawbreaker:
It's like a cone headed wooly bugger on a jig hook with a twist tail.

That fly looks killer.  Tough to cast?

Nice.  I've been getting more and more into that as well for close to home options.  I have a pretty good assortment of frog patterns, mouse, poppers, sliders, etc.  Also some weedless leach and minnow patterns.

I don’t own any but will probably pick up a few of them. They’re tied on 1/0 hooks so they’re big and I assume they’ll be a chuck n duck sort of affair. Might cast ok on an 8 weight. We’ll see I guess.
